The Dresden Melange is a very balanced coffee with a particularly round body. The blend of 90% Arabica and 10% Robusta beans is characterized by the harmonious flavor and subtle sweetness with notes of dark chocolate, nutmeg and a little tobacco.

In compliance with the quality guidelines of the German Roaster Guild, we roast the beans by type and at low temperatures using the traditional drum method.

We recommend preparation in a classic filter coffee machine, a hand filter or in a siphon. Contrary to the times when filter coffee was regarded as stuffy and old-fashioned, it is very popular again today. No matter whether prepared by hand or at the push of a button.

At the tasting competition of the German Roaster Guild, our Dresdner Melange 2017 won the gold medal in the filter coffee category.

The German Roaster Guild represents the interests of the specialty coffee roasters in Germany. The guild and its members stand for the outstanding quality of the green coffee used, traditional and health-conscious roasting, fresh specialty coffees and fair treatment of the coffee farmers in the countries of origin. The guild not only demands the above-mentioned criteria from its members, but also scrutinizes their types of coffee at the annual blind tasting. Roasters whose coffee or espresso has been awarded are allowed to provide them with the official medal. The competitions are the ideal opportunity for us to objectively assess our coffee and espresso varieties. The positive result: we bring home at least one gold or silver medal every year.

It is easy to explain that we use the two words “craft” and “enjoyment” in our slogan. The drum roasting process that we use to roast our coffee beans is actually still a craft, and every coffee lover associates enjoyment with a “Let's have a drink”.

The third reason is our city's history of enjoyment. At the beginning of the 20th century, Dresden was considered the center of the German chocolate industry. Contrary to the longstanding opinion that the Swiss invented milk chocolate, a recipe from 1839 shows that a Dresden chocolate entrepreneur was the inventor. The filter bag also comes from Dresden. The inventor was a housewife whose name everyone will know: Melitta Bentz.

She made the “original filter” from the blotting paper in her son Willy's exercise book. On June 20, 1908, she successfully registered her invention with the Imperial Patent Office in Berlin.

In doing so, she revolutionized coffee culture. A street was also named after her, and as luck would have it, Melitta-Bentz-Straße is only a two-minute walk from our coffee roastery.
