The Pacha Mama, a coffee with trademark protection, is grown in the highlands of the Peruvian province of Chanchamayo. Its history, the commitment of the two friends Michael Scherff and Walter Knauer and of course its quality immediately impressed us. It offers a full-bodied taste with a slight spice. The “fruity” notes are reminiscent of summer freshness, mixed with hints of chocolate and nuts, a wonderful complexity in the mouth is complemented by a few surprises.

Michael Scherff and Walter Knauer have made it their business to sell top quality organic coffee via direct import to coffee roasters in Germany in order to improve the financial situation of Miguel Grau's smallholders and at the same time to protect the environment. Michael ensures the quality and delivery reliability in the country of origin. Walter takes over sales, customer care and logistics in Germany.
For decades the coffee farmers in the highlands of Chanchamayo were organized in the “La Florida” cooperative. The cooperative has around 1000 members and produces around 7000 tons of coffee of various grades from less high growing areas. The altitude of the coffee, the varieties, processing and quality differ. In order to change these differences, the "Asociación de Agricultores Grano de Oro Miguel Grau" was founded on the initiative of five families in Miguel Grau, who are also part of Mari Scherff's family. The area of the "Asociación Miguel Grau" is located at a privileged altitude of 1320 to 1620 meters, which is the basis for the production of top-quality coffee. The excellent harvest results would not be honored in the “La Florida” cooperative and would be mixed with the other harvest results from lower altitudes. Today the “Asociación de Agricultores Grano de Oro Miguel Grau” has around 50 members, almost all of whom come from the village of Miguel Grau.

This is how the coffee called "Pacha Macha" was born.

Our traditionally roasted Pacha Mama beans are perfectly portioned as filter coffee for a single cup. Brew it fresh in your cup. This type of preparation gives you a very special experience of the finest flavors. You have never seen your coffee so fresh.

It is easy to explain that we use the two words “craft” and “enjoyment” in our slogan. The drum roasting process that we use to roast our coffee beans is actually still a craft, and every coffee lover associates enjoyment with a “Let's have a drink”.

The third reason is our city's history of enjoyment. At the beginning of the 20th century, Dresden was considered the center of the German chocolate industry. Contrary to the longstanding opinion that the Swiss invented milk chocolate, a recipe from 1839 shows that a Dresden chocolate entrepreneur was the inventor. The filter bag also comes from Dresden. The inventor was a housewife whose name everyone will know: Melitta Bentz.

She made the “original filter” from the blotting paper in her son Willy's exercise book. On June 20, 1908, she successfully registered her invention with the Imperial Patent Office in Berlin.

In doing so, she revolutionized coffee culture. A street was also named after her, and as luck would have it, Melitta-Bentz-Straße is only a two-minute walk from our coffee roastery.
