What Studying Programs SCA Has To Offer?

Dozens of people study SCA each month and receive diplomas. But why do they want to train in the Association? SCA focuses its attention on the program quality and how it prepares students to achieve their professional goals.

SCA Offers 3 Levels of Training

  • Foundation level: an introduction to each discipline and lasts one day;
  • Advanced (or Intermediate) level: for people who work in the coffee industry. You can miss the primary level and come to the advanced. But if you have poor knowledge, the coach can send you back to the basic level;
  • The professional level lasts three days and helps people delve into the study of one of the disciplines. To pass the professional level, you shouldn’t miss advanced.

Studying Modules

The SCA studying program consists of 6 modules. To get a diploma, you must additionally pass an exam. However, if you want, you can learn only one selected module.

Introduction to Coffee

This program is suitable for beginners. You’ll learn everything about coffee, varieties, processing methods, roasting, and brewing methods. The training course involves cupping and coffee rating.

Barista Skills

This one-day course teaches you about espresso machine and coffee grinder facilities and tools, espresso and latte-making techniques, and milk whipping secrets. Of course, a good barista should be skilled in sales.

Brewing

Here, you’ll deepen your knowledge of filters, different brewing methods, and other factors that influence the taste of your drink. You will get the maximum use of practical brewing lessons.

Green Coffee

Get the information on how coffee is grown, processed, transported, and stored. What defects you should pay attention to and how to manage the assortment.

Roasting

The roasting module will tell you about the roasting cycles. If you work in the coffee industry, you should know everything about coffee grains while roasting. Also, the knowledge on how to organize the workspace will never be redundant.

Sensory Skills

This final module is the most important one. You’ll train in the perception of taste and aroma, differences in coffee characteristics, cupping protocol, and methodology.

To enroll in the module, find the course and trainer you need on the SCA website and find out the time, place, and cost. Each certified trainer sets the course cost, and you’ll pay it separately from the cost of certification. For each module, the trainer sets a different price, which varies depending on the level.
