What Is Shakerato, And Why Should You Try It At Least Once In Life?

Shakerato is cold Italian coffee with sugar and different tasty additives. People call it so because of the specific method of preparation and serving in a glass as a non-alcoholic cocktail. The drink is invigorating and refreshing in the heat.

The name Shakerato comes from the word “shake.” Since the ingredients are combined in a shaker – a special bar device for mixing and quick cooling of drinks, it is not surprising.

A mixture of Arabica with a small amount of Robusta is best for making shakerato. The drink will be moderately strong but soft in taste and with a strong cream.

How To Make

A double serving of espresso is used as the coffee base in the traditional Italian version. But if you do not have a coffee machine, you can brew strong coffee in a proportion (15 g of coffee and 60 ml of water). Filter the ground before adding to the shaker.

Ingredients:

  • Strong coffee (a double portion of espresso) – 60 ml;
  • Sugar – 2 teaspoons (or to taste);
  • Ice cubes – 3-4 pieces;
  • Syrups (nut or chocolate) – to taste.

Shakerato Recipe

  • Add some ice, sugar, and syrups to the shaker;
  • Make two servings of espresso or make strong coffee;
  • Add hot coffee to the shaker. Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds to dissolve sugar;
  • Pour the drink through a sieve into a martini or wine glass so that the ice does not get into the glass. You can see the light brown foam on the top. Drink cold.

The coffee mixture that you will use for cooking plays an important role. With Arabica, you will get coffee with a light sourness, subtle taste, and aroma, and Robusta will give an astringent note, bitterness, and sharpness in taste, but a firm and thick cream. Therefore, it is recommended to use espresso blends with the addition of a small amount of Robusta. This way you will be able to keep the wonderful, soft aroma and taste, but at the same time get a good resistant creamy foam.
