What Is Eugenioides And Why Should Everyone Try It?

Eugenioides coffee is a botanical sort and the name of the Eugenioides coffee species, also known as C. Eugenioides. This is a type of coffee like Arabica and Robusta (C. Canephora), but not as well-known and widely used. It is most often used in coffee blends made in Africa, Indonesia, the Philippines, Columbia, and Sri Lanka, is actively used by locals, rarely exported.

EugenioidesHistory

The variety was discovered only at the end of the 18th century in Liberia, where it got its other name. But for many years, it was unknown to the general consumer and coffee production, until in the twentieth century in Guinea, it began to be actively added to blends. However, only 2% of such trees still grow on plantations. They mostly grow freely throughout Africa, in the northern half of the equator.

Taste & Aroma

If you just roast the grains and make a drink, it will have a sharp, bitter taste used only by the locals. Nevertheless, Eugenioides Coffee is often said to have really unusual notes of sesame seeds, caramel, and marshmallows with sour drops of lemon drops and softness of milk which are so valued by world baristas and coffee lovers.

Use Of Eugenioides Coffee

As already mentioned, Eugenioides goes mainly in blends, where it gives other beans a fantastic aroma. Still, a separate drink from it is prepared only by locals in the regions where it grows. However, this variety is also used for other purposes:

  • In the confectionery industry. For example, Liberica often acts as a flavoring for all sweets and desserts with a coffee aroma. There is almost no caffeine, the taste is not too pronounced, but the smell is mind-boggling.
  • For the production of jasmine tea. Surprisingly, the flowers of Liberica smell stronger than jasmine than the petals of the flower itself, so they are often collected, dried, and either flavored with tea or brewed in its pure form.

This year, Eugenioides coffee appeared on the world coffee stage and played with new colors. It was used on the World Barista Championship by three national champions.

In coffee shops you can find coffee blends with Liberica, they are not too expensive, but they are really few. However, a real coffee lover should try this drink to feel this unusual brightest aroma, which seems almost concentrated.
