World Coffee Events
Coffee events can be compared to sports. There are different sports, so there are various disciplines in coffee competitions. The Barista Championship is considered a classic, with participants competing in the preparation of espresso, cappuccino, and the author's coffee drinks. The judges evaluate their work according to unique criteria. There are also competitions for brewing coffee with alcohol, latte art, and a championship of cup testers.
History Of Championships
The idea for the Barista championships was developed by Alf Kramer, the first president of the European Coffee Specialty Association. He believed coffee exhibitions and competitions played an essential role in popularizing the profession of a barista, stimulating professional growth, and promoting the culture of coffee, improving its quality.
The format of the barista competition was first approved in Norway in 1997 and the cup testing championship in 1999. Kramer later developed the formats of the world championships in cup testing (2004), latte art, “Coffee and Alcohol” (2005), and coffee in a jezve (2008).
Seven coffee championships are held annually as part of World Coffee Events.
World Barista Championship
WBC is an international barista competition held annually by the WCE. The competition aims to promote the profession of barista and attract world audiences to the annual championship, which is the culmination of local and regional events worldwide.
Brewers Cup
This is also a very popular championship. The participant prepares coffee for the judges by hand using the filter method. Latte Art Championship

Coffee & Alcohol Championship
The participants create beautiful and delicious original drinks based on the best varieties of coffee and alcohol. The taste of coffee should dominate the drink, so alcohol is used in small quantities.
Coffee Roasting Championship
The participants demonstrate experience and skills working with green coffee and a roaster – a professional coffee roaster. Usually, these championships are held for a narrow circle of professionals without the permission of spectators. The winner is determined by the tasting of roasted coffee and the technique of his work.
