Results Of Recent World Coffee Championships In Milan

HostMilano is the largest professional platform for training professionals from the food areas. It started on October 22 in Milan this year. More than 1300 brands from 40 countries took part in the exhibition.

That was the leading industry event in coffee, tea, chocolate, and other food segments. The event included an exhibition, an obligatory conference program, educational seminars and masterclasses, tastings, professional competitions for baristas, roasters, and tea masters.

Coffee Championships are undoubtedly one of the most spectacular and inspiring coffee events in the world, held annually under the auspices of World Coffee Events. This is a huge layer of the modern specialty coffee industry, uniting professionals from different countries.

About WCE (World Coffee Event) 2021

About 100 national champions participated in three WCE competitions: foo baristas, coffee brewers, and tasters. Important parameters that the certified judges evaluated were:

  • the taste of drinks,
  • purity;
  • creativity;
  • technical skills;
  • presentation.

Barista Competition

Barista champions can significantly impact the global coffee industry by shaping new trends, as, for example, did Sasa Sestic. This skilled barista won at the 2015 Barista World Championships and promoted processing coffee using fermentation (carbon dioxide maceration). Later, many farmers grew coffee in different countries using this method of coffee processing.

The most famous stage in the performance of each participant is an author’s creativity. Baristas take the chance to turn on their imagination and create something new. In general, the competitors have to prepare 12 drinks for the judges.

The 6 best participants go to the finals. And only one - the best of the best, becomes the world champion in barista! Congratulations to this year’s winner - Diego Campos from Colombia!

Brewers Cup Competition

Free serve is the critical issue of this competition. The participant pre-selects the coffee, brewing method, and concept for his presentation then tells the judges about his coffee and why he chose this particular brewing method. In the final round, the participant prepares three drinks for judges.

WCE 2021 joined more than 30 competitors together to demonstrate their brewing skills for three days. Matt Winton from Switzerland is ready to receive your greetings!

Word Cup Tasters Competition

The Cap Testing Championship is one of the most dynamic and spectacular competitions. The championship requires high concentration and the ability to distinguish coffee to taste quickly. Thus, the participant should not describe, estimate the drink’s quality, define its grade, etc. The winner is the participant who guessed the most significant number of cups in the shortest time.

27 competitors have virtuously shown their tasting skill under the eyes of judges and excited exhibitors. The winner of 2021 is Kyoungha (Charlie) Chu, origin from Australia.
