Since the early days of specialty coffee in the US the coffees of Kenya have been a standout. The unique Kenyan auction system, implemented in 1933, firmly linked premium prices with higher quality at a time when most producers considered coffee just another commodity. The result has been a couple of generations of extremely carefully grown and processed coffees and a reputation for excellence rivaled by few other origins.
Our Kenya Kirinyaga Kii AA comes from small family-owned farms perched high in the southern foothills of Mount Kenya on rich red volcanic soil ideal for producing some of the finest coffees in the world. Farmers in these fertile foothills typically cultivate around 250 coffee trees on half-acre plots, delivering carefully selected, ripe cherry to the Kii factory for processing and eventual export. After the fruit and outer skin layers are removed the coffee is washed, then soaked in fresh water for long periods of time to solidify the classic Kenyan profile. The coffee is dried over a period of two weeks on raised beds, which are carefully constructed to ensure proper air circulation and temperature control for optimal drying.
The best Kenyan coffees are appreciated for their bright, clean qualities featuring aromas of dark cherry or black currant that interact with a prominent acidity. Our Kenya Kirinyaga Kii AA manifests these qualities in the cup in generous proportion, but what led us to immediately recognize it as truly outstanding is the depth and character of the citrus qualities it possesses. Notes of lemon, lime and sweet grapefruit form a layered, complex acidity that goes way beyond our expectation and mark this coffee as something very special.
Pourover, drip, French press…whatever your brewing preference we highly recommend you try Kenya Kirinyaga Kii AA and experience one of the truly majestic coffees of the world.

Fonté Coffee Roaster
Our story begins in 1992 in the Pacific Northwest coffee capital of the world — Seattle, WA. It was here that founder and owner Paul Odom followed his passion and started Fonté Coffee Roaster. Our name is Italian for source. We help coffee lovers brew the freshest cup of coffee.
Steve Smith, Master Roaster, (Left) and Paul Odom, CEO & Founder, (Right)
Founder Paul Odom met seasoned roaster Steve Smith who had been one of the first roasters ever trained under the three original owners of Starbucks rising through the ranks to being the only roaster at the company to earn the title of Master Roaster. With Paul’s strong focus on quality and Steve’s want to use an artisan approach to roasting, Smith left Starbucks and came to Fonté creating high-quality specialty blends featuring a hand roast-to-order wholesale process that established Fonté Coffee Roaster as one of the top wholesale coffee providers. We partner with the best of the best.
