The el café opened its doors in January 2012 under the motto “Enjoyment that connects”. Since then, we have been serving a fine selection of freshly roasted and single-origin Arabica coffees from all over the world in our small roasting studio & cafe, right behind the former market hall on Alsergrund.

Othmar Müller, chief graduate coffee sommelier. As unique as his coffee is el café owner Othmar Müller, who can look back on a lifelong coffee house experience. In 2006, the 67-year-old handed over the traditional family bakery and coffee confectionery to his children when he retired. A short time later, on a trip to Ecuador, he discovered a new side of love for coffee. In the first Austrian institute for coffee expert trainingMüller then trained under the direction of the coffee specialist, Prof. Leopold J. Edelbauer, to become a “chief coffee sommelier” and then undertook numerous educational trips to renowned European coffee roasters. Ultimately, Othmar Müller realized his dream and opened the el café. There he shares his knowledge of gourmet coffees with great dedication and passion.

For Müller, a coffee sommelier , coffee is a luxury item that should not be classified in the category of careless mass consumption because, says Müller: “You should take time for a coffee so that you can enjoy it. If you don't do that, the person is ultimately no longer edible! ". What the coffee apassionato got to know and appreciate on his trip to Latin America, he would like to pass on to his guests today: “On the other side of the ocean, people have long known how to take time to live and enjoy. It is high time we set an example, ”says Müller from the bottom of his heart. And what could be better than a nice, warm cup of coffee under the palm trees in the sun-drenched el café on Alsergrund!
