The Kainamui Coffee Factory sits on the slopes of Mount Kenya, the highest point in Kenya. The mineral-rich volcanic loam soil provides ideal conditions for coffee growing.
Most coffee producers in Kenya are part of a cooperative and are often called “smallholders” because each producer’s total coffee harvest might only be a few bags. The 2000 smallholders that work with the Kainamui mill are part of the New Ngariama Cooperative. This cooperative provides many benefits to its members including access to pre-financing for school fees, farm materials, or emergency needs from funds set aside from the previous year’s harvest. The factory also provides farmer training, agricultural seminars and sustainable farming information.
The care and attention given to the producers is directly related to the quality of coffee produced. Kainamui AA has a refreshing grapefruit acidity balanced with the tartness of black currant and depth of dark chocolate. It showcases what Kenyan coffees are all about.
